Hi all, just signed up to this forum, looking at getting a few chickens soon so thought I should ask some questions and do as much research as I can beforehand.

I would recommend some Rhode island hens for you, hardy chooks and can also be eaten.
Lay big size 7 to 8 eggs, 250 to 320 a year.
I would not get chickens until you have done lots of research on them, like on all the desieses and free range lots, also mites and cures.
Research really helped me, I am an expert and only 16!
