Hello! I'm new to raising backyard chickens. Hoping to learn as I go with the help of others. We've had them for 3 weeks and so far they make my day more interesting. Hoping to add a 2 more chickens within the next week or so to complete our chicken family. Feel free to leave me any beginners advice

Very nice to meet you Jamielou - so glad you joined the BYC flock. The best advice I can give you is to check out the Learning Center, it's a great place to start a chicken education.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a beautiful coop and flock. Thanks for posting the pics. :o) X2 on drumstick diva; if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

That's a nice coop and run you have, did you build it yourself?

Before you get more chickens, it would be good to read up on integration. You'll want to keep new birds separated from your existing flock for 30 days to be sure you aren't bringing in any disease or pests. Then give all the birds a chance to "look but don't touch" period to get used to each other. Your existing flock won't appreciate new birds being dropped in on them without some introduction. Also, be sure you have enough coop and run space to accommodate the total number of chickens (4 sq. feet per bird in the coop and 10 sq. feet per bird in the run). Crowded chickens are unhappy chickens.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. There are a lot of helpful members here and a great deal of information available.

Good luck to you, it's nice to have you here!

Thank you everyone! My husband built the coop and I am very happy with it. I wish we would have bought all of our chickens at the same time because now we need a place to quarantine. The chickens roam the yard all day until they go to bed. I'm assuming that I cannot let any new chickens have free range?

Sure, they can but I'd put up some sort of temporary plastic fencing or even chicken wire to keep the two groups from scuffling with each other.

You're welcome, and X2 on NorthFlChick's adice. New chickens need to be introduced to the flock using the "look but don't touch" method. There is a good article at https://poultrykeeper.com/general-chickens/introducing-new-chickens/ explaining how to do it.
