Hi all -

My daughter has wanted chickens for several years, we lived in town at the time, now we're in the country. We bit the bullet a few weeks ago and got 2 Isa Browns, 2 Black Sex Link, and 2 Rhode Island Reds from Rural King. They are doing well, and currently hanging out in a pen in our garage. We're building a coop as they will need to go out in a few weeks. So far, it's been interesting to watch them grown. I'm 90% sure all our sex link chickens are females, though we have one that acts (and sort of looks like a roo), but not sure about the RIR right now.

We are looking into getting some Guinea Fowl, which I would like because we have a large mouse population I would like to see diminish, but I am worried that they would get on the road (we live on a major highway), and I love the chipmunks in the yard, and would be sad if they would go away. We're next to a pretty big woods and a pasture, so they might be okay. I'm also somewhat interested in quail, so we might look into it after we get the chicks settled.

We have two indoor cats that are friendly and great mousers.

My daughter and I like to draw and paint, my husband is currently working on fixing our aging cars (we can't really afford new right now), and our son likes to play on the computer and swing on the swingset in our backyard.

I'll probably post a few pictures of our birds here soon to get some input of if they are all pullets or if I have a few cockerels in there as well.

Thanks for welcoming me in to the "club"!

Jennifer
