If your silkies go broody, you won't need an incubator. You can put the fertilized eggs under them and they will hatch out and raise as their own.

I got a incubator and have Bantam Silkies going. Got the eggs in the mail for mypetchicken so time will tell if they will be successful. They call for a 50% chance of hatching through the mail but I think that might be pushing the odds up. I have heard from most to expect lower hatch percentages.View attachment 1306908
Welcome to Backyard chickens!
Are you going to get an incubator? Hatching chicks is awesome!
I retired from the US Army about 5 years ago and this spring I graduate college with a teaching degree. The wife and I decided to start raising chickens, mainly to gather eggs for personal consumption. Although, we did decide to go with Bantam Silkies as a hobby. If everything goes great we are considering expanding and maybe start selling some of our chickens. So far we have, Rhode Island Red hens, Plymouth Rock hens, and Bantam Silkies both hens and rosters. I have no experience at all with hatching, but both the wife and I have both been raised on farms so we know a thing or two about chickens. On the other hand, my brother is very experienced in raising and hatching chickens with over 20 years experience.
The thing about percentages like that is that they can vary a lot in reality. Sometimes you get none of the eggs to hatch but sometimes you get all of them to hatch.I got a incubator and have Bantam Silkies going. So true, especially with shipped eggs....some, one, none, allThe thing about percentages like that is that they can vary a lot in reality. Sometimes you get none of the eggs to hatch but sometimes you get all of them to hatch.
I hope you have a great hatch!
