Hi everyone! I'm not new to raising animals for family consumption (rabbits), but I have never raised chickens. I've already placed my order at the local feed store for my first chicks and they should be in this coming March. I've got ten chicks ordered: 2 NHR, 2 DE, 2 BR, 2 BO and 2 EE's. I'm currently in the process of clearing the blackberry vines from the property and then I have to build the coop yet too!
I have no idea how I found BYC. I just know that when I found it and joined the forums, I was addicted! Incubators; I don't have one, but I want one! BUT, I know I have to wait and everything takes time...LOL
I am married to a wonderful woman that has lately become concerned about my sanity because of the chickens. She's areeable with the whole idea, but doesn't want a mean rooster...she remembers one from her childhool! We've been married since July 1981. We have two daughters, Kaley and Kenzie. Kaley got us involved with raising Shih-poo dogs and we now have four of them and we've said, No More! We have two outside cats that take care of the mice and rats. There's also a stray that has adopted us.
I think I'm going to enjoy chickens and being a part of the BYC family!
