Hi all! I joined the crazy chicken family 7 months ago... I have 2 Polish, 1 Barnvelder, 1 Maran and 1 Olive Egger lays lays tan eggs (was expecting olive). I love my hens almost as much as I love my kids! Joined to learn

Welcome to BYC! Sounds like a fun starter flock you have there. Sorry about the disappointment regarding your Olive Egger, unfortunately, the nature of the mixed breeding that goes into EE/OE can lead to that sort of outcome. For the colored egg laying birds I often find that it is better to find yourself a good, local person who really knows what they are doing with their breeding programs to get your birds from as they are a bit more selective about things and this can increase the chances of getting the color(s) you are looking for -- another option is to buy already laying pullets/hens as then you know what color they are producing.....it can be so disappointing to invest months into bringing a chick to the point of lay only to get other than what you were expecting.
