(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens, my spouse raised some when he was a kid. His family also raised pheasants for a few years, but that was like...45 years ago
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 14. I got 9 on my birthday this year (March 15), one died. And about 3 weeks later my spouse surprised me with 6 more!
(3) What breeds do you have?
3 Golden Comets, 3 Black Stars, 2 Dixie Rainbows in the first batch. 2nd batch is 3 Black Australorp and 3 Barred Rocks. All pullets
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The interaction with them, I had no idea chickens had such cool personalities. I realize some are probably mean jerkfaces, but thus far all of mine are very sweet
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I knit, crochet, sew, garden, jog (sometimes, lol) and read trashy romance
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a yorkie who lays on my lap when I knit and then gets really pissy when I accidentally bump her with the needles, lol. I have a fantastic spouse and 3 kids, 2 of which are out of the house and 2 grand babies. We live on a farm, though the farm is retired ( farming is a rich persons game, we were not rich enough) both of us have full time jobs in town.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this site several months ago when I was trying to find info on Dixie Rainbow chicken. I decided to join a few days ago and am having fun and learning a lot digging through the threads
