Lots of questions, I guess roofing is a big concern and I definatley agree a good section covered would be a big help, might i suggest making chicken wire screen sections and sectioning off different areas this means it provides roof support and I assume your going above head height here? Run some guttering inside and save rain water for your birds in a container with an auto fill drinker or nipple system on it maybe? Dividing the area up would also allow you to keep some areas fallow to recover a bit grow some grass in one area maybe let the girls onto it for a short period each day or once a week we have a patch of turf which covers only 1 square yard and the girls get a romp on it for a few hours then we let it recover, they would just destroy it if we let them. if i had as much room as you have I would create zones for different reasons to genrate interest for the girls a bit like the crystal maze maybe a hanging treats area where they can flap and stretch up for food, also a dust bathing zone for them, or what about a climbing adventure course you could sprinkle food all over it and they would love finding it I feel sure you children would enjoy this also, all manner of areas could be created, even a possible broody seperation zone I think the army used to call them coolers. I think you are blessed if you can give over this much space to your extended family, good luck and please keep posting your ideas in return for other users. Oh and one more thing to remember no one cares what you chicken area looks like more than the girls, and believe me they will take every chance to test your skills, if theres one thing I have learned from my girls it is they sure know how to wreck a hotel whether it is luxury or not , they definately live a rock n roll lifestyle if given the chance.

I'm in Adelaide, thought I'd welcome you from a bit further south!
Our coop came with the house though, so I don't know much about construction.
