Good ventilation (hot summer nights?)
Predator protection
Enough room for per chicken (overcrowding?))
read up on diseases/pests /parasites chickens /preventions/precautions

to keep chickens in and predators out use 1/2 inch hardware cloth not flimsy chicken wire.

Welcome to BYC. I built my coop out of recycled material (scrap wood). The hardware is what I spent money on. I am learning more as I search thru this site. As i feel more confident I will go all out and build a condo coop. For now its the little house on the prairie look for my coop.
