Hello
My name is Fuffy and I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands, UK.
I have been a proud chicken mom for a little less than a week now, and am having a great time.
It all came about because one of my labradors kept excaping. So I had some dog proof fencing put up, but in order to cut the cost, I ended up with a 'wasted' patch. Couldn't get the mower in and am not a gardener at the best of times...So i thought I should get some help. I got strimming and found a reputable supplier and here I am.
I have 2 Light Sussex - Not quite point of lay, Isadora and Angelina, collectively called the ballerinas. Then there is Marjorie Maran, a lovely cukoo who gets picked on by the ballerinas. Big Bertha is a Legbar cross - Not the prettiest or the brightest, but a beautiful black. And last but not least is Hermione the Silkie cross. I still have room for one more bird, but haven't decided what yet, so I think I will wait and see what turns up.
The chicken run is about 6m wide and 15m long, and I have another bit which I will add on same width but maybe 8m long. It has grass and what was once a flower bed, so earth with some shrubs and trees. I really think this is enough room for the girls to be 'free range'.
Apart from my chooks I also have 3 labradors, 2 of which are rescues, a cat, 1 1/2 horses ( the 1/2 is a miniature shetland).
Oh and I better not forget the teenaged daughter who lives and works in London!
So there you are, that is me in a nutshell
