Hello all, my name is Sarah-Jean and I thought I'd post a quick introduction! I'm useless at intro's though so I thought I'd answer the questions that are in the topic above!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I'm very new to chickens, having done my research and read a few books - we're in the process of re-planning our garden to accommodate chickens, we haven't actually got any yet. My Hubby used to keep ducks and one day a chicken turned up in the garden and stayed, but I myself, have no experience of chickens (yet!)... I'm very excited though and very keen to learn as much as possible, hence why I'm here!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None yet. We're looking to start small with maybe 3/4 - 6 at a maximum.

(3) What breeds do you have?

None yet. And we're not 100% sure what breed we will eventually go for - maybe a hybrid? Not sure though, still researching!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I read the link in a book I have on chickens, and then found it again on Google!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I like socialising, eating out, travelling, baking and cooking and learning new things. I'm just starting to get into gardening as I lead a high stress life and want to find things that relax me!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Oh dear! OK, well I have seven children aged from 1-10 (and no, no twins), we also have 3 cats who are very laid back and enjoy a good life. I've been married for nearly 11 years and both my hubby and I run our own businesses. Mine is a hair and beauty salon and his/our joint one is a thermal imaging company which he runs from home. We have had very high stress life style until recently and are now looking to simplify things and take more time out for ourselves, our children, our home and our pets.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone and reading about all your experiences and learning from you!

Love,

Sarah-Jean

I have 17 chickens! They are great, its so relaxing watching them, I have school, and its super easy to fit them in my lifestyle! I love the eggs, I sell them at £1 for half a dozen, I have LOADS of customers,

After about 1 month, I have averagely £75. They are absolutely brilliant! They pay for themselves! Where about are you from?

I'm in Buckinghamshire! I can't imagine having enough eggs to sell. But then I do have 9 people in my family and we're only planning on getting a maximum of about 6 chickens so I guess that'd be why! LOL

I think keeping chickens will be fulfilling for the entire family, and it is usually pretty relaxing. Its great to have the forum available for those occasional chicken dilemmas that may arise.
