I've been entertaining the idea of getting some chickens to raise for egg laying and for the honor of having them around the house. So.............I was looking for a forum that maybe I could learn a bit from before I got into it.

My first choices of birds are Rhode Island Reds. I Just think they are beautiful birds. I also am toying with the idea of trying to raise a show bird but I think I have a few steps to climb before I get to that point.

You have to have a dream to pursue to move forward seeking that dream

Anyways, I think it’ll keep me busy for sure.

You can probably find everything you're looking for here and if you can't find it just ask. The raising chicks section is awesome! And there's loads of breeds to choose from, so look around before you buy, you might find some chicken you never would have thought of and having a mixed flock could make things more interesting.

Personally, I went with EE's (Easter Eggers). They're pretty, all different colors and will lay blue or green eggs. I'm still waiting for the first egg but the wait is KILLING me. Mypetchicken.com has a breed selector tool if you'd like a quick look through a lot of breeds. They have RIR's on there and tons of others too.
