This week I placed my order for my first chicks to be delivered in February. I am getting ready to build the coop and found this forum during my research. You all are awesome! I have spent several hours reading about coops, taking care of chicks and controlling predators, and I have only scratched the surface. I have so much more to learn.
We live on a hilltop surrounded by mountains and woods. Raising chickens has been high on my priority list as part of our effort to be more self-sufficient and live a more sustainable lifestyle. And I really like fresh eggs! We are preppers, and believe that it is critical that people be able to feed themselves and take care of their families in the event of emergencies or major economic or man-made catastrophes.
I was raised in the country on an apple orchard. I know what to do to raise fruit (and a large garden), but I didn't grow up around farm animals. I look forward to learning from all of you and sharing my adventures of raising my first chickens.
