Hey y’all I’m new to gardening and so far everything I’ve planted has grown and produced very well for me but I’ve noticed something on my purple hull peas that I’m not sure what it is and if it’s good and bad and I’d appreciate some help. I’ll post pics. It almost looks like little bugs but I’m not sure if it is and what I can do to get rid of them if it is. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m still trying to learn haha

Those are aphids. Lots and lots of aphids. I've had that before on purple hulls. Kinda creepy when you touch them.

You can do a search on how to control aphids and decide what you want to try. There are lots of different options out there and I don't know how feel about different possible controls like organic or not-organic pesticides or methods.

Yes, definitely aphids and quite a lot of them. I had a massive infestation last year on my nasturtium. Soap and water is a very tried and true way to deal with them, that and a whole lotta ladybugs. :)

Glad you got them figured out and eradicated!

assume you are in the south. My neighbors, here in OH, are from Louisiana and they grow only a few things in their vegetable garden...purple hull peas Take up 60% of their garden space...that’s how much they love them!

I’ve got the exact same thing on some of my purple hulls in Mississippi. They were spotty and I just skipped the pods that were covered. Agreed.. they are gross.

What part of the state are you from? im from the southern region. They were horrible and seemingly showed up out of nowhere. A little dawn dish washing liquid and water took care of them though.
