I recently was given a large off-ground rabbit cage and have been wanting to give checkens a go, so I am going to convert it. I used to collect eggs as a chore in my youth, but that was a long time ago.

My primary question is what I need to do if I go out of town for 3 days? 7 days?

Can I just give them enough food & water for the number of days? Or do I need to have a neighbor kid come let them out to run and fresh feed.

(FYI - I am assuming 2 mature chickens)

Just what is the chickens schedule and expectation?

Thanks!

. I would hire someone you trust that is responsible enough to take care of them. Some people just set out extra waterers and feed but if they knock over the waterer and feed or use it all up early they will be famished until your return

i am not real sure about that but we feed our chicken's daily and by noon all there food is gone and we sneak n feed lol but i would say have someone to come and feed them.....if we left a lot of food out for our chickens they would bust lol

When we go away, we have the next door neighbour come over, our chickens have free run of the backyard so they just come over of an afternoon and lock them back in the coop and check that they have water, and we just give the chickens enough scatch mix and water, and they just eat the grass and worms from the backyard.
Make sure its someone you trust though like the person above said :)

I went to Orlando for a vacation with the family, so I just paid my nephew. I put the feed in zip lock bags marked for each day. All he had to do is feed one bag a day and make sure they have fresh water. Worked out really well.
