In late Feb. I decided to start chickens. I had an old incubator (the redwood kind) and decided to try and hatch some eggs. I could not get eggs from a local hatchery until end of March. Being impatient I decided to go ahead and buy some chicks. I loaded my kids up and we went to a local feed store that had some--the kids each picked out a baby and I got a couple of pullets for eggs. So questions are this:
**one of the chicks is a straight run bantam and does not seem to be growing--has gotten feathers in but is not getting any bigger--did I do something wrong with her (I think it is a girl) or do bantams grow alot slower?? She is about the size of a normal size day old chick.
**I have gotten my hatching eggs and it is day 23--nothing!! No pipping or chirping! My humidity is 85% and temp is 100--been there consistently. It is the old still-air incubator. I turned them 2 times a day and stopped turning at day 18. I think they did not make it--but when should I break them open to see if they formed.
