Newbie hello from Ottawa, ON, CAN

I’d love to have BYC. I’m addicted to learning all about it. I live on an almost 2 acre property in a suburban neighbourhood that is not zoned properly for BYC. My yard is beautiful meadow and tree and could so easily take chickens. Would love to talk people who are breaking their by-laws and making it work. Our immediate neighbours are ok with it. Just really worried about ‘the egg song’ travelling farther into the neighbourhood and getting turned in.

What a shame you currently can't have a backyard flock with 2 whole acres. Check out this article and see if there's something you can use to get your ordinances revised: Chicken Laws and Ordinances (And how to change them)

You could also post on your country thread to see if there are others in your general area that have found a way of making a flock possible: Canada

What a shame, exactly! That’s why I’m so tempted to just ignore the bylaw and hope it all goes well and that I won’t be turned in. I know others in Ottawa are doing it. However met one person who had to rehome her hens because someone aside from her immediate neighbours ‘saw’ them.
