Hi everyone,

I am new to chickens and new to this forum - already I have gained so much info by reading various posts! We got our 8 chicks in the first week of April, all just a few days old: 4 Gold Laced Wyandottes, 1 olive egger (BCM/Ameraucana), and three Ameraucanas (one Blue/Black Splash, two Blue). They are growing like crazy! They are all straight run, fingers crossed that I don't end up with a bunch of roos as I am not allowed to have any. I am suspecting my olive egger is a roo, but probably too early to tell? We have spent the last week building the coop and run, which is coming along nicely.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and am excited about this new adventure! :)

so glad to have you join us and congrats on your new baby chicks.

Straight runs often are more than 50% roos

......or at least that's what I have heard.

Here's hoping you get mostly gals

. But best you do make plans of what to do with the roos before the problems hit?

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice and links already so I'll just say hello!

All the best

Sometimes, roos are roos. Luck of the draw and all that.

But chickens, rooster or hens, are an adventure Jonessa.

Any chance you have pictures or details on the new coop?
Always interested in how everyone comes up with their own
plan.

Glad you're here, and make plans on staying a while.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone!!

I don't have many pictures of the chicks yet, but here's a cute one! I think they were about 5 days old there. They are now 3 wks old.

And here's our coop so far! We're doing plywood walls and external nesting boxes. We're now trying to decide where to put doors and windows. Any thoughts? The coop is 8'x4'', within an 8'x12' run.
