Hello!
I am new to chickens - we bought six Barred Rock hatchlings 4 weeks ago. I came here to see if I could determine their sex at this point (and I'm 99% sure we have 3 roosters and 3 hens!) I found out about BYC from the book "A Chicken in Every Yard" (great resource!) I've also had friends recommend the site and have seen many BYC postings on Facebook. I enjoy gardening, mountain biking, wakeboarding, swimming, exploring nature with my family, studying the Bible, and watching my boys play baseball. I am married and we have 2 boys, ages 7 and 10. I have a degree in Wildlife Science from Purdue University and I volunteer at Eagle Creek Park and in the library at my kids' school. I have a feeling I'm going to become a chicken addict pretty quick!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. You can post pics of your Barred Rocks on our What Breed or Gender is This? at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this and let our experts there sex them for you. Barred Rock cockerels are typically lighter in color than Barred Rock Pullets. Also the cockerels will develop larger and redder combs at an early age. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Barred Rocks.
