Hey everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Sarah & I live in NC. I don't have any chickens yet but I'm hoping by next spring or spring of '19 I will.

Right now I'm in the planning stages. I went to Southern States & TSC today to get price checks on fencing, feeding/waterers, etc. I'm also trying to decide what sort of coop I want & if I should buy it or build it myself.

I have a shed that could be converted into a coop (or at least a portion of it divided off for their living/nesting space) but I'm a complete novice when it comes to woodworking/carpentry. I feel totally lost when it comes to that. I know that if I could convert it, I could seriously save some time & money & possibly get my chickens sooner.

I'm interested in getting the Buff Orpingtons & Columbian Wyandottes breeds.

Well that's all for now. If anyone is interested in seeing my shed I'll gladly post pics tomorrow. Hope to get to know many of you soon. TIA!

:frow Go for it!

Don't get on of those undersized pre-fab coops. Work with what you have. Sounds like you have everything worked out.

Best success!

Hi! :welcome. We're so glad you're here. And yes we love pics...post away! I would say,if your carpentry skills are lacking, use the shed. Personally I would not buy a pre made one..they are usually too small, way too expensive, and not that well made. If you can build one yourself go for it. That's what we did and not as hard as you would think. But, if I had a shed I could use that would be my first choice....use what ya got.:)

I'm definitely leaning that direction! I would need to add more ventilation & windows. All it has in there now is a single window in the back, opposite the main double doors. I will post pics tomorrow, maybe someone could tell me what sort of materials I would need to buy :)

:welcomeThis is the best place to get all the answers and advice you would ever need or want!! Hopefully with the help of everyone we can get your flock up and running! I converted a 8×12 Shed into a coop half is the inside with a large run built off of it. I will post the link below maybe will give you an idea for yours.
