newbie here, Hi everyone!

I've been a chicken owner for over a year now. I presently have 6 rhode island red hens and hope to get more to increase my flock to 12-15 birds. Looking forward to learning a lot here! I do have one question to start with: I've noticed a couple of my hens have been laying thinner shelled, lighter colored eggs and was wondering what could cause this. They all used to be so dark brown and strong shelled. Any opinions?

Do you give them oyster shells? maybe they need more calcium. As for the color mine seem to lose color they longer they lay.

Welcome to BYC! I agree with sheila3935, or maybe they are not getting enough foraging time? Mine had the same problem, but ever since we let them free range, they went back to normal.

Give them oyster shell. That will give them more calcium
and that should take care of the thin egg shells.
