My kids started 4-H last year showing rabbits, now we're adding chickens 😎

Chicken math has already hit us 😆😆 we have a couple of English orpington chicks, an Ayam cemani pair and they want to try hatching eggs in the next week or so. I haven't hatched since grade school so I'm basically new to this at this point.

We just moved and are looking for good breeding coop ideas. I'm thinking I'd like to build the coop areas inside our detached garage with runs out the back. Anyone have suggestions? My biggest question is how do I keep the dust down?

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you here in this fun and poultry community. There are several active breeders here that should be along soon than can give you ideas about breeding coops. Dust is another of your concerns and can be better addressed once your coop setup is known.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

How many pens do you need? We just bought a 12'x20' Amish shed and hubby built four coops inside and 1/2" hardware cloth pens out front.

For the inside, each interior coop needs their own food, water, nest boxes, ladder to the boxes if they're high, etc. Silkies prefer to roost on wide perches so they like on top of the nest boxes. You'd need to also have a perch or two in yours. We use 5-gallon PVC buckets for feeders, and 5-gallon horizontal nipple buckets for water.

Ours is new so it still looks clean. :)
