Newbie Here- What makes up an Easter Egger?

Please pardon my ignorance... I thought EEs were a breed unto themselves, but it seems to me that some consider them mutts?

i dont, i consider them mixed color ameraucanas. if you check the history of the ameraucana breed you will find that they came from easter eggers.
 
"Easter Eggers" came from the Quechua of S. America. Many of them are not very different from what you'd see running around the streets in Argentina, they just have slightly more European blood in them. Some have a lot more.

They're actually quite a beautiful little bird with a much more significant origin and history than simply "mutt chickens with the blue egg gene".
