Hello! I'm so excited I found this forum! My family is new to chickens. We were tempted at TSC last spring ('16) but didn't bite the bullet. This year was a different story. I found my best friend has been keeping chickens and quail. Who knew? SO. Here came this spring and again the chick days at TSC. I ended up buying 6. My husband built my coop. Not perfect, some design flaws.. but we will know better for next time (hint hint)! We got up to 21 chickens, but then down to 8. Those darn roos. I can't have them where we are. Then I started quail from my friend. She'd hatch and I grow them, give her the eggs, and its a vicious circle. Due to happenstance, weather and some animals I am now down to 16 quail and 6 in the brooder. My girls just started to lay. 4/8 are laying. We have a mix of RIR, RSL, Australorp, and a Silkie. Unless I was lied to, which I hear happens alot there. I look forward to chatting with y'all!

Mnjinluv, my name is Robin and I want to WELCOME YOU TO BYC. It sounds like you have some nice chickens. It is also nice to meet you! :)

If you post photos of your birds at "what breed or gender is this," they can sort them out for you.
