Hi everyone,
Jen here and totally new to being a chicken mama! I have wanted to get chickens for several years but we lived somewhere we knew we wouldn’t be staying long term so I waited. We moved to a more rural area on a fairly decent lot last year and I had chicken fever bad but we had sooo much going on I waited. This year I debated and then finally took the dive this week! I have lurked on here a lot and read a lot and I’m sure I will have many questions along the way but this site always seems so helpful and very informative so I joined up a few days ago in anticipation of getting our first chickens. I called around the local farmer supplies (not TSC) to see who had what and decided on two local places nearby one another based on the chicks they had.
We got a starter coop, and decided on 6 chicks to begin with. We got 3 silver laced wynadottes, one gold laced wynadotte, and two black astrolops that are all supposed to be hens...we will see lol.
Brooding then inside our storage building in a secure large dog crate with a heater plate and so far they have settled in nicely. I can’t wait to see what an all we learn from our first chickens but I am super excited and love just watching them!
