Hello. I am pretty new to owning chickens. I bought my first chicks just over 7 weeks ago. I researched different breeds for a while before deciding to order 6 Easter Egger females from a local hatchery. 2 days after I picked them up, we walked into TSC and walked out with 4 chicks (2 silkies, 1 red sex link, and 1 barred rock). Fast forward 4 weeks, and I bought 2 barred rock hens (that are just under 2 years old) for cheap from a local lady who was downsizing her flock...because I wanted some eggs now. about 2 weeks ago, 2 of my EE "pullets" started crowing. I contacted the hatchery that I ordered them from. they asked me to bring them down so they could see them, and they gave me 2 replacement chicks...and I bought one more. I still think I have another boy or 2 in there, we'll see. I sold my silkies a few days ago, because I decided that weren't good enough layers to meet our needs. they're SO CUTE, but too "fancy" for me. That same day, I went and bought 2 red sex link chicks from a feed store to replace them. Right now, we have 15 chickens. My husband originally only wanted 3. ;) I need to get rid of the roosters though, because we don't want any at this time.

I have been a member of the BYC Facebook group for a while, and decided to join here to interact on the forums. I am from Central PA (Cambria County). I am a SAHM to 3 sons, all young and very close in age. My boys have really been enjoying this journey of ours. My grandparents always had a farm with plenty of livestock, so I am familiar with what it takes to raise chickens. Memories!!

Hopefully next weekend, we can start moving most of our birds into our coop/run that is still currently under construction. We have a limited time when my husband can work on it, and the weather hasn't been very cooperative lately. Making progress though, finally.

Nice introduction. Pleased to meet you.

Thanks, everyone. We don't have any other pets...just the chickens. I think I am already annoying my friends on FB with all of my chicken posts/talk, so it's good to be here. You all get it! Haha
It's amazing how quickly "non" chicken owners become dis-interested in our bird stories... You won't find that here. We love them.
