My husband grew up on a little farm and we just recently bought a home on a half acre and he has been dying for some chickens. He is currently in Army Basic training but I came across a family who are looking to rehome two of their chickens and beautiful coop for an extremely low cost. SO, im picking them up on Saturday. With that being said, my husband is the one with all the knowledge, so I need help! Any tips, tricks or advice at all would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I assume that is a picture from the ad. You will want to immediately add a proper sized run to that tiny coop. That's not enough space.
Congratulations on your new hens!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

You are going to love keeping chickens! They are such curious, friendly, intelligent creatures. They can be quite affectionate too. If you have any questions about them along the way, be sure and ask us.

Welcome to our community! :)

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! That is a very cute coop, and probably big enough for you two hens, but I agree with @DobieLover, that you will need a bigger run for them. Also, if you have the space, it's actually better to have 3 hens.
Yes. I already have materials to make a bigger run. im not sure but I get the vibe that they have just been kept in this little coop. I feel for them. Id love for them to be free range chickens but we have a lot of owls and hawks so im not sure I want to risk it. Ill definitely be creating a big run for them. Just out of curiosity, why is it best to have 3?

Because things happen, and you don't want to be left with one lonely hen. They are very social creatures.
