Hi there, I’ve just begun raising some chickens and am having a great time. I started out with 6, however I lost 4 last winter. I just purchased 8 more, ISA browns, Rhode island reds, sapphire Olive eggers and sapphire splash. I can’t wait to start getting eggs. I do have a question. I had 2 older chickens and I have already put 4 of my new chickens in the coop, so far so good. I was afraid the older girls would pick on the younger girls. should I have separated them? Like I said they seem to be getting along, but in the future, how do you usually introduce new ones to older ones?

Hello, it's nice to have you here! If your flock is getting along ok, then I'd leave them alone. Often, there will be a problem integrating without a gradual introduction. Also, a period of isolation is recommended for new birds to be sure they don't bring a health issue to your older birds.

Thanks for joining!
