Newbie here, in more ways than one! I've been owned by chickens since February of this year and absolutely love it. It has been so much fun. Started out with a few buff orpingtons and wyandotes then hubs ordered 25 rainbow layers and a couple of other kind and ohhhh the freebie turned out to be a white crested black polish. His name is Don for obvious reasons! Well I got my first egg today! It's a small to medium green tinted egg. I have been over joyed!!! Like a kid at Christmas! My co-workers think I'm nuts! Here's a picture of the first one - as a co-worker just said

Chickens 50.00
5 months and 250.00 of food
1 egg priceless!

When you say rainbow layers, are you talking about easter eggers?

McMurray Hatcheries calls whatever we ordered "rainbow layers" so I don't really know if they are the same or not. They probably are.

Hi! I'm new here too, and I enjoyed reading your introduction; your enthusiasm is inspiring and infectious!!! I'm still "breed shopping" for pets/layers, and want chickens with friendly temperaments. Have any of yours stood out in this way?

I currently have around 40 hens and 1 white crested black polish that I call Don and 1 Dominecker roo.
