Hello everyone!

I live in Plainfield, IN and am really excited to get info about raising and caring for chickens. I am a home health care nurse in Indianapolis and while coming out of a client's home I was surprised to see chickens pecking at some food that was left on the sidewalk. I've been intrigued ever since. I'd like to know if anyone from my area has chickens as I live in town and am not too sure what the ordinances are and what defines a flock versus 3 or 4 pet chickens. (Yes, they will have names.)

I look forward to getting to know all of you and to becoming a "mother hen."

Glad you joined us! Chickens are great. To find someone in your area you can go to the "Where am I, Where are you?" topic and find TN. Good luck on your chicken journey. We'll be here to help

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! I found these while perusing the site:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. I can remember getting a chick as a pet when I was little and then giving it to a farmer to raise. My uncle had chickens on his farm and I go help my aunt gather eggs.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have none. Still researching.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Read above.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I "googled" after I had seen some beautiful birds in a neighborhood in Indianapolis.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy gardening (veggies and flowers), canning and freezing, sewing.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married, have two grown children, and two grandchildren. I'm a registered nurse and recently made the transition to home care. I am also a full-time college student. I have 2 cats...Marmalade and Momma Kitty.
