Unfortunately I am inheriting this built in chicken shack that is basically built into and existing house enclosure and I cant really do a run due to the fact that it would impede on the horses so they are going to have a solid go at the property until we are more esablished and can build a larger scale chicken house. Our neighbors built thees entirely out of pallets and I must say the thing is pretty impressive. Any advice on what to do about a door that has about a 1-2inch gap at the floor? I would assume most predators would just eat through a rubber draft scrape thing. I can post pictures after the mud daubers give me some space. Picture a four stall barn with the coup at the end of the hall and a wood half door with 1/2inch chicken wire to the top to make it a full enclosure. I might just be paranoid at this point since the laying boxes are off the ground and on the other side away from the door and I plan to hang the feeder 6" off the ground. Obviously if mice want in the can squeeze through the chicken wire. Not quite sure if the snakes are gonna want to get in yet or not. Just got word that I can get 6 young hens as well as a young rooster all from the same lady so I will not have to worry about quarentine which will be nice. She is a bit far away though so if anyone in the Sonora CA area has a rooster and some hens that are getting to the laying stage, I would be happy to purchase locally. let me know.
