(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to chickens and very excited to get started...in 3 days!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
0 but acquiring 6 chicks

(3) What breeds do you have?
Planning to get 1 of each of the following: Buff Orpington, Plymouth Barred, Rhode Island Red, Black Sex Linked, Australorp & Ameracauna (anything stand out as a major mistake? All thoughts welcome!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Reading one of the many chicken books in my pile

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, bicycling, hiking, yoga

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I share a 1/2 acre property with my parents, we have a main house and a smaller "granny" pod. I am a single mother with 2 boys (8 & 4), part-time Pharmacist and homeschool mom. I am certain chickens will be our gateway to other small livestock.

By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

Hiya Wookumus :welcome. So glad you have joined our flock:). My children are older but I have grandboys who are 4 and 9 who LOVE my chickens. I'm sure your boys will thoroughly enjoy "farm" life. Folks here are knowledgeable and quick to offer solid advise and encouragement. Best of luck with your new flock:frow.

You said it..."I am certain chickens will be our gateway to other small livestock." Chickens are known as gateway poultry. Next thing you know you'll have ducks, guineas, turkeys, and who knows where it will stop :D
