(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm very new, I've had my chickens for 3 weeks. I'm still learning what is normal and what isn't.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
So far we have 10 chickens and a guinea hen. I'm hoping to add a few more to my little flock, but I plan to keep it fairly small.
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 RI reds (rose tipped?), 2 Barred rock (1 black sex link, one black and red), 2 batom of undecided origen, 1 gray guinea hen, 2 speckled sussex, 1 Giant Cochin, and 1 small cochin
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google. I was looking up info on hatching eggs. One of the bantoms was housed with a roster before we got her, so we built a little incubator so my nephews could try to hatch the eggs. We don't have high hopes (and we never really wanted to do chicks), but it's a good learning experience for the children. In theory, they should hatch any day now. We candled the eggs and they seemed to grow correctly, so maybe they will hatch.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I breed hedgehogs. They have quills. Feathers are confusing, I don't understand feathered creatures!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband just rolls his eyes at the chickens. My nephews love them and think that they are going to train them to do tricks.
I also have 4 cats and many many hedgehogs.
