Started with chickens several years ago by getting 3 pullets, Rhode Island Reds, for entertainment for my birthday party. Quickly had all the guests helping make a home for them
Well, first 3 pullets started crowing... lol. I think it was the first 7 all turned out to be roosters instead of hens. Finally ended up with 2 hens and quickly added 3 more.
Three years ago bought a house where we could have more chickens and also a rooster
Although we were not prepared for the predators out here. We lost all but 2 of our old hens.
After an order to the hatchery and a new coop... my hubby, 10 year old daughter and I have 40+ chickies, mostly bantams... 2 cats, 4 ducks and 2 rabbits.
I found backyardchickens.com from a ad on craigslist and was hooked instantly! Spent a lot of time looking at the wonderful birds here.
We love our birds.... they all have names (although some have group names), love the fresh eggs (can't eat them in resturants anymore...just not as good), and spoil them as much as we can.
Thanks for the great site to share chickie love on.
