(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We just picked up our very first chicks earlier this afternoon. The last couple of weeks were spent building a brooder, obtaining a shed to convert to a coop, and clearing out the area to be used for the coop.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6 little babes

(3) What breeds do you have?
1 - Olive Egger
2 - Golden Sex Link
3 - Ameraucana (one has slight scissor beak and was virtually free)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We're paying more attention to what we are eating, not only the types of food but what is used to make our food. Rather than drive into town to the nearest health food store for eggs, we're opting to raise our own. Our dream is to have a small homestead as well. While we live in the mountains in the country, a full homestead isn't an option. Backyard chickens seemed like a nice start.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to cook from scratch. Gardening soothes my soul. If I could keep my kids out of my sewing kit I'd have that out more often too. Let's not forget good ol' fashion vegging out in front of the tv ha!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Our family of 5 has three little ones. Our boys are 5 and 3 and our little miss is just over a year. We live at a Christian retreat center where I'm the director of food services and head chef. It's a blessing to live in such beautiful country, enjoy my work, and get to serve God.
