Any tips on care and maintenance of Muscovy ducks? Thinking of getting some on our 2+acre farm. First time getting birds. Really excited. We are a family of 5 with 2 dogs and 2 cats. Will that be an issue? We also have a pond next to the house that I think the birds would love! Thank you for any advice you can share.

Only your dogs and cats know if they will be a problem. I don't know much about ducks, so I advise you post on the "duck thread." just put that in the search box and it will pop up.

! Pleased you joined our community! I've raised ducks before but not the Muscovy breed. Here's a link to some awesome duck articles though: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/256233/ducks-sticky-topics-index
Hard to say on the dog/duck interaction. I have five forms of fowl at the moment and a chocolate lab and golden retriever that simply ignore them. Here's a link to dealing with a dog that bothers chickens - can't think the foundation would be any different for ducks:

And a link about socializing dogs to poultry: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/introducing-your-dog-to-chickens-tips-tricks
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!!

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your ducks when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
