Got up this morning to discuss the chickens with my dad and confirmed that yes he was talking about Bantams. See he was born on a farm(I didn't know that!) and his dad had a few of these bantams and he tended to call them Bennys. Suffice it to say that my dad thought they were cool and has wanted one ever since. And then... I found out that my dad loves chickens! I probably should have known since our house has lots of chicken like things in it! Well anyways back to my point he wants six chickens now...

I think that he's been leading me on this whole time. He really wants these birds!

Well yea anyways we've decided that we're going to do just bantams. Yay! Now all we need to do is pick what breed of bantam we'll get. (my dad wants an Easter Egger I'll probably let him get at least one.)

My dad is going to build a coop so that's been taken care of. and we want to do a movable run(tractor) to keep them occupied. So question how much room do bantams need? Or should it still be 4sqft? How big should a movable run be for 4-6 birds?

I'm also going to hop on over to the Louisiana forums later. Thanks tons to everyone for ya'lls help and warm welcomes!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry to be late coming - but, you know with it being turkey day and all...... I knew your dad meant Banny from the start -lots of good breeds come in bantam size now. Hope you enjoy BYC as much as we do.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Easter Eggers and Ameraucana both come in bantam size also (most big mail order hatcheries carry bantam Easter Eggers). You might want to check out some of the bantam breed threads for housing ideas. Usually figure on 2-3 feet for a bantam depending on size.

Oh I know and its no problem. Holidays and all that awesomeness. I'm just glad I figured it out.

I'm already enjoying the site to my dads mortification. He thinks I've gone bird crazy.

The smilies are super cute and funny too.^0^

@Kelsie- Yep I've been looking at the Bantam Easter Eggers and Barred Rock Bantams. I think that I'm going to go with an even three for both breeds since I don't want a ton of different birds that may or may not get on well with each other.
There are threads for just Bantams? Would that be on the breed forums? I glanced at the breed forums earlier but didn't see any on Bantams. Maybe I just missed them?

So then say a movable tractor coop that 4'x4'x8' with added coop would be big enough for six bantam's? We're still looking at designs but I want to make sure that's enough room? It just seems kind of small to me. Also we're going to be moving said coop once a week or when it seems like the grass is being killed off or something like that.
