Newbie in Virginia

We'll raise them as pets and for the eggs. Thanks for the welcome!
My advice if you're keeping them as pets is to hold them as frequently as possible without stressing them. Hug them, talk to them, be with them as long as possible. Soon enough they'll adopt you as their mother and will look forward to seeing you every day.
 
We're in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. No old sheds here, but we ordered a coop from OverEasy in PA that will be delivered tomorrow--5 x 6 ft. Supposed to house up to 15 hens. Looking for places to order chicks. Looking at Mt Healthy in Ohio.
ALL prefab coop manufacturers claim their coops will house far more than they should. I wouldn't put more than 8 birds in that coop and that is only if a large predator proof run with a solid roof was securely attached to it such that the entire structure was predator proof so the pop door could be left open,
