Hello to all you chicken lovers! I have been reading the forum for a bit and have to say this certainly is the friendliest bunch of folks. I started reading when I was looking for information to help me with a sick silkie chick. All the information helped me help the chick, and although we lost her, I felt I had done everything possible and that made it easier to let her go.
We have had chickens for a few years but they have always been "working girls" and I never made pets of them. We currently have 10 grown girls (one RIR, one silver laced wyandotte and the rest americaunas), four guineas and one goose (not counting a neighbor's love-sick goose who waddles up to spend the day with our goose every day) . A few weeks ago my husband brought home 6 new chicks (three silkies and three unknown breed bantams). We lost one of the silkies, and in the process of caring for the sick baby, my maternal instincts kicked in like crazy, and I have now made pets out of my new babies.
We are also proud parents of one blue heeler mix dog, four assorted cats and one very, very old pot bellied pig.
I look forward to learning as much as I can. If I can figure out the appropriate section, I'm on my way to post my first question!
