I love this website and came across it through Google when I was searching for bird pen suggestions-I think...I've been on here looking for quail info too. Everyone is so helpful! Love that about country lovin' folks!
A little about me....
I live in a farmhouse that has been in my family for 5 generations and was built 100 years before I was born. I have two children of my own and am engaged to a great country lovin' guy who also has two kids.
I've always wanted some chickens and plan to get one very soon. I've had horses and goats (wouldn't mind getting another goat sometime). Right now we have two dogs, husky mix and a German Shorthair, 13 coturnix quail, 3 pigeons (my pair is laying on their first batch of two eggs), 2 cats and 2 rabbits. I originally got my quail cockbirds to train our pup with, but then decided to get some hens for eggs (taste so good and my little 5 year old neice (my QuailQT) eats them quicker than I can fry them up! She insists on scraping the coop floor for me and loves finding the eggs).
I'm not sure what breed to get for my first hen (leaning towards a Buff Orpy), but would really like something that is very friendly, non-aggressive toward my other birds (they'll all be together in my outdoor shed), something not too big that will crush the quail eggs and good looking (though that's not a necessity as long as they have the other qualities that I need) Suggestions please?
I love the country life and some of the activities that I really enjoy are outdoor photography, making quilt tops, fishing, hunting, working in the garden, worm farming, and taking care of my family and critters. I'm looking forward to making some new friends here and learning lots of new information!
