I'm a city chicken keeper too. Truly backyard chickens!
The only way I could keep the chickens off my patio was to stand there and threaten them (lol) every time they come near it.
I swear they would come over just to poop on it. I would suggest you build a run. If you let them free range back there they will never stay off the patio. I ruled out fencing in the patio and decided to just fence the chickens in instead.
