Hello everyone! I am brand new to this forum, but far from new to chickens. I grew up with game chickens and woke up almost every morning of my life to crowing outside my window, but when I left home for college and then got married I started to miss those sounds. Now that I have a family of my own and we have moved back to the old family farm, we started raising chickens again and my kiddos could not be more excited.
I dont have much experience with any of the breeds that we have acquired, so Im sure I will be full of questions.

A little about myself: My degree is in Natural Resource Management, but I am currently staying home with my little ones until they are all in school. I run a small Etsy shop making handcrafted soaps and candles. My husband is a computer guy and works constantly and has very little interest in the animal side of our farm.
My kiddos are 5, 4, and 2. They are the best little helpers a gal could ask for. My boys both hope to join 4H when they get old enough.

Welcome to BYC!

Very cute pics! Glad you decided to return the world of chickens. Once they get into your blood, it is hard to get them out from under your skin.

Enjoy all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Very nice pictures, looks like the chickens will be a great family project! Be sure to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center And it is always fun to check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/37675/arkansas-folks-speak-up most 4-H programs will also have activities for younger kids that aren't old enough for the regular projects.

I too am new to BYC and pretty much the chicken world. I have recently aquired 15 red cuckoo orpington chicks. Can anyone tell which ones might be pullets and cockerels from markings at this age. 2 weeks old. Some have the chipmunk stripe down the back and head with eyeliner around their eyes. Lol. Others are lighter with no markings at all except for the cuckoo effect in their wing feathers. Any help?
