Hi there!

I'm so glad I found this website and it's been so resourceful ever since!! The great comments/suggestions/experiences is all very helpful. I am new to owning chickens in the city of Chicago and I am about to hatch some Brabanter chicken eggs! So hopefully all goes well since I am such a newb to this. I'm very excited, but worried at the same time... So crossing fingers

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the new chickens, I'd love to see pictures when they hatch.

Feel free to ask any questions, make any comments, or just post stories or pictures! We love poultry, so don't hesitate.

Best of luck!

Welcome to BYC!

Good luck with your hatch. It would be fun to see pictures if you'd like to share.

Nice to have you here!

Thank you everyone!! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time!! I will definitely post pics. I put in the eggs(9) last night. Although I have 12 eggs but it won't fit in the automatic turner. I was going to place the carton along with the 12 eggs into the bator, but I was worried with manually turning the eggs and having to open the lid so often will effect the eggs. So I guess I will put them separately in a DIY incubator? Any suggestions? I did read somewhere that someone did put a carton of eggs in there to incubate more eggs and manually turning them, but the hatching rate was not as well as her first batch...

This is the type of incubator I'm using. Temp set at 38C and humidity within the 40-50%. I have three hygrometer and 2 thermometer in it.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I lived in Chicago for the first 22 years of my life - had no idea then you could have chickens. Maybe it happened later on. Sending good hatching vibes your way
