So I have been visiting the site often for the past 3 years since I first started a flock. I loved the idea of having laying chickens and had been around them as a child. I have 2 daughters and wanted them to have the experience like I did. Problem was that I didn't really care for them as a child, I just helped gather eggs. Long story short, we set up a coop and about a year in the flock was attacked twice and all killed but 2. We fortified their coop and got more chickens. We have lost a couple from various things over the last 3 years. I have them in a large, "wired in" run and don't let them free range often due to the predators where we live. We live in the mountains of NC in a rural location. I have started to rescue chickens because no one will take them where we live. I have recently obtained a rooster and two chicks (separate rescues). I do not know the breeds well and would like some help with identification. I believe there is a thread for that so I will post it there too.
