I just washed my seven 2month old Silkies, thanks to the instructions listed on this board... No more dirty birds!!!! YAY!!!! lol

I just washed a bird for the first time today too! We have a silkie that somehow sat under a branch that a huge white turkey was roosting on this morning, and ICKKKKK the silkie's entire back/side/wing was covered in very smelly poop. I was so shocked when I took the silkie over to a bucket of water, leaned it down in there and started washing, the silkie was totally fine with it! I LOVE silkies!! This particular silkie was in a big mixed-growout-pen and had never been handled before, so I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of the experience. Where did you find the instructions, since I'd love to read something too! Now that I'm not so nervous about trying it, I think we could even start showing our birds! (the fear of washing them was keeping me from it until today)

I believe the thread is called "bathing a Silkie", started by 1997 if you wanna do a search- I can't copy and paste on this comp. It was very helpful. My chickies all got muddy today, so I thought I may as well give it a try. They don't like to be handled, and bite me every time I touch them (while my RIR and Austalorps act like they like me)- after bathing and blow drying, they seem to somewhat like me now!!! LOL Go figure!!!

That's so funny!! My silkie seemed to like the little bath too. I was so surprised how she/he just relaxed in the water. I was expecting it to be like trying to give my cat a bath.
