Newbie looking for advice.

Some do, some don't.

My California White flies over the 48" fence when she feels like it but never goes far from the flock. The others only go out when strongly motivated -- usually by being badly frightened.

I don't think that the Light Brahma could do it even if I offered her an exclusive on Dubia roaches to make the attempt. I haven't seen her get more than 18" off the ground since she got old enough to start laying.
If you put them in an area with trees would they climb the tree to fly out?

That would depend on both the breed and the individual chicken's personality.

Mine don't make much effort to leave their run. Sometimes you get one or more that simply will NOT be confined.

Large, heavy breeds are the most likely to stay put. As I said, I don't think my Brahma could get out no matter how hard she tried. She's just too heavy to get airborne.

im just feeling bad about taking these girls from full free range to be confined, with some free ranging. Almost feel like I should re-home them:(
