we are looking at possibly buying a house in Jacksonville, North Carolina and are hoping to have pet chickens and rabbits. Not sure what kind of chickens to buy or building the coop but excited about the idea. We've had rabbits for years but never tried chickens. Any help is appreciated. Especially curious if there any laws that might put a stop on this

Welcome!

I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

and some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Sorry, living in Aus I am not able to help you with local laws, but you might want to also pop in and say hello on the local thread:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

Best of luck. I hope you are allowed to have chickens, they are so much fun!

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Teila has given you some great places to start your chicken education. Good luck with all your plans!

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great links from Teila already so I'll just say hello!

All the best

It's best if you check the local laws in your town or village, to see if there are any restrictions on having chickens. Welcome to the BYC flock
