Hi, My name is Janeen. My husband and I decided to begin raising chickens for eggs about a year and a half ago. We, not knowing anything about the chickens, decided we really wanted some baby chicks. We waited patiently for at least one of our 10 hens to begin to sit her eggs or go broody. We waited and waited and eventually found out that our bard rock hens aren't the broody types. Sooo I did a lot of research, got an incubator and as soon as I saw the first baby chick eye looking at me from inside the shell, I fell in love. We now have about 35 but I've hatched about 100 in total. Some went to friends, some to my parents and the others we've kept.

We also decided to buy a couple of Geese for protection of the chickens and then we got some three mallard ducks and three pekin duckss. Unfortunately, Our geese, ducks and chickens don't love each other as much as we'd hoped. We ended up building an additional area for the geese and ducks. Hubby is working on a pool for them now.

The ducks then some how led to quail, which led to rabbits and now pot bellied pigs. I never know what is next.

I also love gardening except that my chickens and ducks eat my garden when we let them free roam. I also enjoy crocheting, canning, and baking.

My husband and I have been married for 15 years, we owned a bar and grill for approximately ten years but sold it at the beginning of Covid. My husband is now a truck driver and I am a REALTOR® here in Alabama and have thought about making a chicken hatching youtube channel with a funny REALTOR® name. I haven't figured out the right name yet.... maybe you guys can help. LOL

I found BYC during my quest to learn everything I could about hatching baby chicks. I've known about BYC for about 6 months. I would have joined sooner but I just realized I could join.

:welcome

Hi Janeen, sounds like you won't have time to be a realtor if your animal population gets much larger

Thanks for joining us, it's nice to have you here!
Lol. Thankfully my granddaughter feeds and waters then everyday for me. I get home around dark and play with them until way past my bedtime. She and I journal every hatch.
