First I will post the requested info:
1) What type of bird , age and weight. 1 week assorted bantie
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Fine
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. Nothing
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Starter crumbles, sugar vit water, chick grit, egg yolk
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Some have brown diarreah, one is impackted even after I cleaned the hard poo off last night.
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Cleaning of with warm water of poo butts, stopped sugar water, added grit free choice and sprinkled little bit on food.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Treat myself
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. No
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use Pine Pellets
Oaky, last night I noticed two chicks had hard pasty butt. I cleaned them off well, but noticed one feels like it is impacted. I turned of the heat lamp all day because it was getting too hot in the brooder. They are in a bathroom with no a/c vent and I am in Louisiana. Today I was checking all of them again to make sure no one else was pasty. I noticed some of the chicks now have a full crop. It is not hard, and they are acting fine. I don't know if this is normal or not. Also, my chicks that I cleaned up last night are still clean, but one is impacted. I tried to get it to eat some bread with oil in it, but it wouldn't. What should I do for both groups of birds. They are eating starter crumble. I had given them some egg yolk, vits, and sugar water before but I stopped all of that early yesterday. I covered the pine pellets with paper towels again today after I noticed the crops since I had read about them eating the bedding. Please give me any advice you can. Should I try and make a acv, oat, oil, yougurt past and feed that a little? What shoudl I do. I am starting to feel like a failure.
To top it off I think I got messed over by my contractor that was supposed to already finished my coop. Good thing I only paid him half. I am so stressed right now. I already had one chick die from being too weak.
Thanks,
Debbie
