newbie needs help they wont roost

Hello Hiram and welcome to BYC.
You asked about what to put on the floor.
I buy compressed bales of stallion bedding which is mostly pine shavings.
I have heard that cedar is toxic to them so make sure it is pine or any other hardwood shavings.
It fluffs up quite a bit when you break it up and a bale usually lasts me several weeks.
I put down about 3 or 4 inches deep and when it gets too smelly I remove it all and put down fresh stuff.
I use it in the nest boxes too.

My 14 week old pullets are all piled up in corners of the coop too. I have 3 levels of roosts and the older gals are on the top but the pullets are piled up in a corner. I figure sooner or later they will roost at night time. I have seen them roosting during the day on the roosts but not at night
